Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, two regions located in Germany, are key pilot regions for the Soteria project. With a joint focus on enhancing resilience in both urban and agricultural landscapes, our consortium of partners, including the German Insurance Association (GDV), Genillard & Co, HSWT, Saxony/Unhalt, and the Consumer Association (VZS), collaborates closely to tackle a spectrum of climate hazards.

Our project is driven by the collective action from the German Insurance Association and academic insights offered by HSWT and Saxony/Unhalt, along with consumer advocacy perspectives from the VZS, our partnership ecosystem fosters innovation and resilience.

We work closely with our stakeholders including, the Consumer Association (VZS), the Regional Environmental Agency (Landesamt furUmweltschult), agricultural cooperatives, and mutual insurance associations to co-create solutions tailored to the unique needs of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.

In Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, we’re pioneering various pilot types, including Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), Mutualised approaches, and Nudging strategies. We aim to enhance risk management and insurance coverage through these innovative approaches while fostering sustainable agricultural practices.

The climate hazards of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt range from stormwater and floods to droughts, heat waves, and more. By identifying and addressing these hazards, we’re working towards building resilient communities and agricultural systems resilient to climate change impacts.

The KPIs to measure progress and impact include, organising focus groups with farmer associations, conducting surveys among agricultural cooperatives, and co-developing regional policy recommendations with stakeholders. These KPIs are benchmarks to track our journey towards enhancing climate resilience in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.
